6:30–7:00PM: LULU – Puerto Rican-born, Detroit-based singer-songwriter LULU opens the evening with an intimate live set. Her honey-like vocals and unique blend of jazz, indie-pop, and Latino influences create a warm, genre-crossing sound that explores life’s most vulnerable moments.
7:00–7:30PM: Lawrence La Fountain-Stokes, Professor of American Culture, Romance Languages and Literatures, and Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, La Fountain-Stokes is an award-winning writer, scholar, and performer. His work explores queer and trans Puerto Rican performance and diaspora culture. He will deliver a dynamic talk drawing from his celebrated scholarship and performance practice.
7:30–8:30PM: Urban Tropical led by pianist and arranger Alina Morr, best known for her work with the Grammy-nominated group Straight Ahead, Urban Tropical closes the night with an energetic live set. Featuring Detroit’s top jazz and Latin musicians, the ensemble brings the sounds of Cuban Son, Mambo, Salsa, and Latin Jazz to life.
